Share links

Let people try a version before it is in the store.

On this page

Every app has one share link. Before the app is listed, the link is the only way to find it: it opens the app's page for whoever has it, and they can install the version you put behind it on their own display. Use it to try a version with the people you choose before you submit it.

Terminal
ledable developer test
ledable developer share

developer test makes the version ledable.json names the app's test version, the one the link shows. The version must have passed its checks; one that failed is refused with Version not published. Run it again after each upload you want people to try.

developer share prints the link. It has the form https://store.ledable.io/a/<app_id>?t=<token>, where the token is what lets the store show an app it does not list. Send it only to the people who should have it.

The link shows the test version only while the app is not listed. Once a version is listed, the link shows the listed version, as the store does. To have people try a new version of a listed app, give them its number to install with the CLI.

What people see

On an iPhone with the LEDABLE app, the link opens the app's page in the app directly.

Everywhere else (on Android, on an iPhone without the app, on a computer) the link opens a web page with the app's name, publisher, version, README and its picture on a panel, marked Unlisted while the store does not list it, and an Open in the LEDABLE app button. On a phone with the app, the button opens the same page in the app.

In the app, the person must be signed in. The page is the app's store page for the version behind the link, and its Install button puts that version on one of their displays. Once installed, it stays on the version they installed: when you later list a newer version, they are offered the update like everyone else.

Terminal
ledable developer share --reset

--reset makes a new link and prints it. The old link stops working at once: it opens a page saying the link no longer works, and the app's page no longer opens from it in the LEDABLE app. Displays that already have the app keep playing it.

Unlisted apps

An app that is not listed, because no version has been approved yet or because it was unlisted, does not appear in the store's pages or its search. Its link still shows its test version. An unlisted app without a test version has nothing to show, so its link opens the page saying the link no longer works.

Testers with the CLI

People who use the CLI can open the link's page with store app --share, which prints the version behind it, and install any version that passed its checks by its number with store install, whether or not it is listed or behind the link:

Terminal
ledable store app gitlab-todos --share "$SHARE_LINK"
ledable store install gitlab-todos@1.1.0 --device 1234

store manifest and store preview take --share as well, to show the version's settings and its preview.
